Introducing the Offseason Tracker

The World Series is over. Let’s the transactions commence!

The action on the field may be done for 2024, but that doesn’t mean the v30 Club takes a break. The offseason is when new Club possibilities come into focus as players move to new teams. Those moves are already underway and will continue through Spring Training 2025.

We here at the v30 Club are keenly interested in where players end up. Throughout the fall and winter you too can keep up on how players’ moves position them for v30 Club induction by checking in on our Offseason Tracker. You can get to the tracker from the header bar or via a link which will be appear in our (at-least) weekly transaction round-up posts.

The Tracker lists the players whose contracts become settled, which may include:

  • Players exercising a contract option (player remains with their 2024 team)

  • Clubs exercising a contract option (player remains with their 2024 team)

  • A trade (player changes teams)

  • A waiver claim (player changes teams)

  • A free agent signing (a player may sign with a new team or with their 2024 team)

Once we know a player’s “definitive” team1 we can determine if the player can join or max. Because of the balanced schedule, any player can theoretically join the v30 Club if they play for a team they’ve already ledgers against. Of course statistically, the more teams you need ledgers against, the less likely you are to join. If a player does roster with a team they need to ledger against, the best they can do is max out meaning they can ledger against every team except the team they play for.

We did a cursory survey of the top 50 free agents and their minimum Likelihood Score a few weeks ago. But knowing a definitive team allows us to calculate a player’s actual Likelihood Score for 2025. In addition, we can start to build a calendar of possibilities.

As an example, let’s look at Eugenio Suarez who has already been added to the tracker.

The 1 before his name indicates that he was, at the time, the transacted player with the highest likelihood score for 2025 induction. The Transaction field describes the type of move that was made, the team that the player is now with in bold, and the date. The Status field tells you if the player can join or max and lists all the teams that player needs a ledger against. The Likelihood Score field shows a number, out of 100, that indicates the odds of that player joining in 2025.

Further, not listed, but still important, now that we know that Suarez and the Diamondbacks face off against the Orioles in Arizona on April 7-9. This makes him a very early inductee possibility.

Keep checking as more players have their 2025 home decided over the coming weeks.

Players may end not being added to a 40-man roster or may be further transacted to another team before the start of the season. This is especially true the further you move down the Tracker’s list.
