Hits and misses from the second month of the season
v30 Club Member Adds
The v30 Club did not welcome any new members in May.
Highest Likelihood Scores for Possible Inductees
The red-hot Juan Soto is leading way with an incredible 82.2 likelihood score. He checked off the Angels in May and now needs only the Rangers.
Corey Seager holds the second highest score with 74.3. Seager needs one against the Yankees setting up the possibility of getting two joins in a single day in early August when the Yankees and Rangers square off.
Gary Sánchez drops the third position with a 51.9 score after missing six game opportunities against the Cardinals. He has seven more games to go.
A cluster of players with one ledger to go and likelihood scores between 31.2 and 29.4 includes Paul Goldschmidt, Michael Conforto, Freddie Freeman, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
Also of note is Bryce Harper who added one against the Rangers this month to move to a 26.4 score and Shohei Ohtani at 23.5 with three teams to go.
Notable v30 Club Misses
Once a player exhausts potential match-ups against a team they need to join the club, they enter a “Misses” category. Here are the players who had the highest ledger count coming in to 2024 but have failed to hit a home run against a needed team in May.
Brandon Drury missed against the Guardians, Eugenio Suárez missed against the Orioles, Justin Turner missed against the White Sox, Joc Pederson missed against the Tigers, and Kevin Pillar against the Marlins.
Other players missed out on maxing out their score in 2024 including Willie Adames against the White Sox, Mike Trout against the Pirates, Alex Bregman against the Braves, and Xander Bogaerts against the Reds.
Maxed Out Players
No players maxed out in May. Some players who are still eligible include Jose Altuve, Aaron Judge, Max Muncy, and Pete Alonso.
Pete Alonso Number (a.k.a. Polar Bear Chase)
There was lots of movement in the Chase in May. Leading the hunt are Jordan Westburg and David Fry with seven ledgers a piece with Westburg with better odds right now.
Davis Schneider, Jackson Chourio, and Nick Gordon all have six apiece while there’s a nine-way tie with five ledgers between Michael Busch, Colton Cowser, Andy Pages, Ceddanne Rafaela, Alec Burleson, Wilyer Abreu, Joey Ortiz, Nolan Schanuel, and Dominic Canzone.
